Envaulted Uses Direct Connect to Collect Credit Card Transactions

During the beta phase of Envaulted, only issuing banks who support the “Direct Connect” peer-to-peer file sharing protocol will work for the rewards program. Many banks support Direct Connect, such as American Express and Chase. If you have a Chase card, however, you may have to go to Chase’s website and enable Direct Connect on your account. Directions for enabling this service are located on our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Many banks don’t support Direct Connect, like Capital One. Capital One credit cards can’t be used yet with Envaulted. Eventually we’ll support banks like Capital One once we have a chance to further build the required infrastructure. Some banks charge a fee to enable Direct Connect (e.g., Bank of America). Check with your bank to see if they support Direct Connect and if there are any associated fees for using the service.

Debit cards and “checkcards” are also not supported in our beta test phase. These cards do not typically allow Direct Connect access, either.

Over the coming months, we will constantly add new banks to our system. Please check back from time to time to see if your issuing bank is supported. It helps us if you let us know what bank you would like to see supported by emailing support@envaulted.com. If enough people request the same bank, we will prioritize adding the requested bank.

  1. any reason that you can't use the existing connection mechanisms that (say) Yodlee use? AFAIK Mint leverages that (though maybe it costs you a lot more than OFX?)

would be nice if this data - our data after all - was available rather than held hostage by the banks!

  2. Your help page (https://www.envaulted.com/help) does NOT have any directions on how to enable Direct Connect (I checked every topic there). Would be nice if the help page could be updated. Thanks.
